Sea level is predicted to rise one meter at the end of the century to 21. This report so that a leading German research institute on Thursday (10/10). According to the institute, the increase is far higher than the most optimistic projection was that the UN climate panel, IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel for Change Clomate).
“We should be prepared in the face of sea level rise as high as one meter in this century,” said Joachim Schellnhuber, head Postdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), which provides advice to the government in environmental policy.
The level of ice melting in the Himalayas and Greenland has been increased to twice or even three times in recent years. Partly due to the increase of greenhouse gas emissions from different electricity generation of China.
In February 2007, the first volume of historical reports, IPCC predict the increase in various ocean surface between 19 centimeters to 59 centimeters in 2100. Increase in sea level may be only one meter so will make the islands in the Pacific Ocean, such as Tuvalu, will be submerged and floods swamp Bangladesh and will threaten the cities, from New York to Buenos Aires.
