Climate Change and Global Warming

A common mistake made by people who have a limited understanding about global warming will often loosely refer to the problem as either climate change or global warming. While the two have much to do with each other, they are two separate things that are related to the same cause, which is carbon dioxide put into the atmosphere by human activity. Global warming is referring to the rise in the average global temperature. It is this rise in temperature that causes the climate changes being seen around the world.

It may seem like it isn’t a big deal, but this really is something people should be concerned about. Global warming has been proven to be greatly caused by the greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide that people are putting into the air through their daily activities. These emissions are caused by cars, airplanes, factories, businesses, or anything else that burns fossil fuels. While there are other greenhouse gases put into the air, carbon is what makes up the largest contributor from human activities. Many don’t realize that global warming affects everyone, perhaps not in the most obvious way every day, but it does affect everyone. Global warming is what is causing the earth to warm, which, as mentioned before, causes the major climate changes that are being seen. What are some of these major climate changes and what does this have to do with people? Floods, severe hurricanes, odd weather patterns such as abnormally cold or warm winters; all of these are products of global warming.

Food and resources come from the natural world and if global warming causes severe drought (which it is in many places around the world), the crop yield will be much lower and money is lost. Not to mention that it’s less food available to people. Global warming is also what is warming the polar ice caps and drying up other fresh water resources. Life needs fresh water and without it, life tends to die.

It is something that people can change if they can take responsibility over it. It is possible to slow and stop the global warming, making the world a healthier place with the necessary resources available. It means that the burning of fossil fuels has to stop. Using energy sources that don’t require the burning of fossil fuels is what is needed. The sun and wind are both excellent examples of the tireless sources of energy available to humans. Saving water and producing less waste is also needed to reduce the carbon emissions. As more people turn to alternatives instead of burning fossil fuels, global warming could be stopped, which in turn would stop causing the major climate changes that have been the cause of such devastation in recent years.

Measurements taken from all over the world, however, have shown that the global climate is changing. In the last 100 years the atmosphere has warmed up by about half a degree Celsius. Also during this time humans have been emitting extra greenhouse gases, which are the result of burning fossil fuels (like coal, oil and gas). These gases include carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.

It’s true that we made emissions of greenhouse gases by using fossil fuels. The extra greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap more energy and therefore enhance the greenhouse effect. This may cause more warming. Greenhouse gases are also released by the exhausts of motor vehicles and the cutting down of rain forests.

Besides carbon dioxide, there are two other gases that accelerate global warming. Both are methane and nitrogen trifluoride derived from ancient plants and technology, flat-panel screen.

According to observers environment, the gas is the second cause greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. In fact, both gas gives almost the same effect like the carbon dioxide caused. Recent research shows in the past few years, the second gas effect is increasing outside estimates. The weather increase also surprised observers.

This methane gas is still the biggest concern after carbon dioxide. The gas is considered a greenhouse gas effect after the second based on the amount of carbon dioxide warming effects and the number produced in the atmosphere.

Methane comes from natural gas, coal mining, and sewage plants. The most worrying scientists is that the plants decompose. Several thousand years ago, billions of tons of methane formed from decaying vegetation in the Arctic North Pole. Plants that decompose and become immobile on the seabed. When the north pole start warming, methane stored in the seabed can accelerate the warming in the area.

Scientists have been trying to learn how the process will begin. Currently, the data collected are still preliminary data, there has been no conclusion. But the scientists said what they see in the beginning is the beginning of the release of methane in the polar north.

Based on their observations, in the last eight years the rate of methane in the atmosphere is still stable, it is estimated that every 40 minutes by supervisors monitor near the seaside cliffs. But in 2006, the results indicate increasing of methane gas. The amount of methane gas in the air jumped from around 28 million tons in June 2006 to October 2007. Currently, the number has reached 5.6 billion tons of methane in the air.

“If this continues to happen, then the effect will be worse,” said MIT scientist atmosphere Ron Prinn, head of the study methane, as said in the geophysical journal Research on Oct. 31 edition. “When the rate of methane continues to increase, of course, will accelerate climate change,” he said.

On the other hand, the rate of nitrogen in the air triflorida is estimated to increase fourfold the last few years, and 30 times since 1978. However, the increase was only contribute 0.04 percent of the total effect of global warming caused by carbon dioxide. Gas is usually used as solvents, such as in manufacturing television and computer monitor, and the panel.

The nitrogen triflorida with the scale of the dihiting per trillion in air during this threat is considered insignificant. According to Ray Weiss geophysics professor at the Oceanographic Institution, an initial effort to know the amount of gas in the air to diremehkan considering the amount that is not too large.

But gas is actually classified as one of the gas that is more dangerous because hundreds of times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, methane is 20 times more harmful than carbon dioxide from per molecule basis. Carbon dioxide gas that is still the most dangerous because the measure is very high and fast growth.

According to scientists, environmental Orjan Gustafsson of the University of Stockholm, a survey this summer found the rate of methane in the east Siberian Sea increased from 10,000 times higher than normal rate. Scientists in the field of environmental Stephen Scheneider from Stanford University, also warned the increase in two gas is a new phenomenon.

“We need to be sure with all these new things as a global trend that needs to skeptical,” he said.

Global Warmin is becoming serious problem right. Uncertain weather and storm become disaster everywhere. To reduce global warming we can’t government to act. Government to busy with politic rather than think how to reduce global warming. Demonstartion will change anything, but we can to start stop global warming from our home.

1. Change your bulb to fluorescent light bulb (cfl).

CFL bulb like Philips product will save up to 80% energy that regular bulb. You will save 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

2. Replace filters air conditioner

You will save save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Dirty filter will make your air conditioner doing hard work.

3. Shutdown electromic stuff when you not use it.

Shuthting TV, vomputer can save a lot of energy.

4. Walk rather than use car

If you want to go somewhere near use your own foot. Car and motorcycle produce carbon dioxide.

5. Buy fresh foods instead of frozen
Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce. To frozen food cool storage need energy.

6. Plant a tree
A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. I plant couple of flower plant on my garden.

7. Use car sharing
Community car sharing organizations provide access to a car and your membership fee covers gas, maintenance and insurance. Many companies – such as Flexcar – offer low emission or hybrid cars too.

Maybe this is only little thing, but if all people in the world doing this, is not impossible we can save this earth.

When the sea water was estimated to increase to 60 cm until the end of the century to come, in the latest research shows the increase of 1 meter. Disbursement of Ice Mountain will be more quickly. German researchers warn climate change occurs more severe than expected previously. This is Postdam research from the Institute for the study of climate, which was delivered by Hans Joachim Schellnhuber told : “We must consider this and this is gazetted by the earth geological data in the past. We must take into account the increase in surface sea water in this century. It is interrelated with the melting glacier in the Himalayas and Greenland. ”

In the last ten years melting ice occurs two to three times. Because of small particles that produce by electric power plants owned by the Chinese coal. 20 percent of particles that mar Greenland ice and make them more sensitive to hot sun. It proved to come from a number of generating electricity in China.

Schellnhuber : “This case is truly a global impact. If the ice surface is not white again, the ice surface that will be difficult to reflect sunlight, heat and melt more quickly. The same thing also happened on the mountain glacier in the Himalayas that the current thaw began. Unfortunately the supply of drinking water for two billion people depend on the glacier. Almost all rivers in Asia come from the Tibetan plateau. This means that the role of air pollution in the speed of climate change. ”

Climate change, according to Schelnhuber, almost can not be prevented again. The only solution is a massive investment in new technology, which can reduce the rate of carbon dioxide in the air, demolished Professor Gernot Klepper from the Institute for Global Economics in Kiel : “Just imagine, if all the world to use technology owned by the German energy, then we will be able to reduce carbon emissions in half worldwide. This is a great opportunity, because the German lead in this field, and also environment-friendly technology. I think, a matter of policy the political climate must bertopang short on new technology”.
